Get Hooked on Fishing in Kure Beach, NC
One of the main attractions in Kure Beach is the wide array of fishing opportunities. Choose from the stretching miles of surf to the oldest fishing pier in North Carolina and cast a line. Find a roundup of the best ways to enjoy this pastime and start reeling in your biggest fishing tale to recount for years to come.
Kure Beach Fishing Pier
Head straight to the center of town in Kure Beach and you will find the 711-foot Kure Beach Fishing Pier, stocked with all the tackle and bait needed to get a bite on the line. It's truly a one-stop-shop with concessions and a souvenir area. With a small fishing admission fee, your fishing license on the pier is included and runs until midnight. Admission on the pier is free for those who are just looking for a wide-open ocean view, and there is a nearby arcade providing fun for the kids.
Surf Fishing
Drive a few miles south of the pier to Fort Fisher State Recreation Area where the public beach is seasonally open to four-wheel-drive vehicles for those who obtain a daily or seasonal pass from the park office. Or, you can park in the recreation area parking lot and walk past convenient restrooms, an exhibit and picnic area to hit the sand. Many anglers have enjoyed the surf fishing on this beach, and the rest of the family can enjoy the ocean or sunbathe on the beach at the same time.
Marina & Boating Access
Navigate your boat to the end of US 421 at Federal Point to set sail for The Basin and Buzzard's Bay, popular fishing areas where red drum and southern flounder are abundant. You can also find fishing charters and public docking at the nearby Carolina Beach Fishing Center and Marina, where you can book full or half-day charters with experienced captains to guide you.
Island Cuisine
Relax after a day full of fishing with island cuisine from the authentic Italian influences at Freddie's Restaurant to Caribbean-inspired dishes at Jack Mackerel's Island Grill, or at Big Daddy's Restaurant for a steak and other traditional favorites. If you're looking for some good home breakfast and brunch options, head to Ocean View Restaurant just a short walk away from the Kure Beach Pier.
