The trail ends with an overlook offering sweeping views of the Cape Fear River and Zeke's Island. During low tide, head to the shoreline near the parks entrance to spot the rare coquina rock formation – a distinctive hard rock outcropping cemented together by a mix of seashells and with an origin that ranges from 12,000 to 80,000 years ago. It is a true natural wonder and is the only rock formation of its kind on the North Carolina coast.
Just off the coast of Fort Fisher lies the Condor, a blockade runner that ran aground on her maiden voyage more than 150 years ago. This well-preserved shipwreck is North Carolina’s first Heritage Dive Site and can be explored with local outfitters like Carolina Beach Scuba.
