New Year, New Lodging
Enjoy your own private getaway in Kure Beach at the new Kure Lighthouse Inn. The iconic hotel formerly known as Darlings by the Sea recently completed full renovations. Located just steps from the beach and minutes from the heart of town, these luxury apartment rentals allow you to relax in style and comfort. Wake up to stunning ocean views from one of the nine newly renovated suites, each of which accommodates four to six guests.
Aquarium Happenings
Explore marine wildlife and aquatic environments at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. One of the state’s most popular attractions, the aquarium was recently included on VacationIdea.com’s list of 25 Best Aquariums in the U.S.
The aquarium has an exciting new addition to its animal family, welcoming four Asian small-clawed otters. The new “Otters on the Edge” exhibit – home to Asta (the mom), Oscar (the dad), Triton (the daughter) and Ray (the son) – features streams, waterfalls, a log slide and an enclosed pool, designed to focus on the health and well-being of this vulnerable species.
The renovation of an existing area in the Fresh Water Conservatory allowed for the creation of the otters’ new environment. Visitors can enjoy watching the animals through five viewing windows along with a crawl space, perfect for small children to explore, where parents can snap a photo.
